Where We Work

Local Damp & Mould Specialists

We cover four main areas across West and North Yorkshire. The type of housing in each area has a big influence on the damp and mould problems we find, so below is a short guide to what we see most often in each, with a link to the full local page.

Leeds

Leeds is where we are based, and its housing ranges from back-to-back terraces and Victorian red-brick streets to busy student lets and the post-war estates of LS10 and South Leeds. Solid brick walls with no cavity hold the cold and soak up driving rain, so penetrating damp and condensation mould are common in the older streets. Original damp proof courses in many terraces have failed or been bridged by raised paths, and heavily occupied houses produce a lot of moisture from cooking, showering and drying clothes indoors.

Bradford

Much of Bradford's older housing is built from millstone-grit stone, and the BD postcodes are full of stone terraces with thick solid walls and cellars. Stone is durable, but worn lime pointing, cracked render and blocked gutters let rain into the wall, where it can take a long time to dry out. Cellars and lower walls are prone to ground moisture, and modern cement renders or non-breathable paints applied to old stone can trap water inside the wall rather than letting it evaporate.

Wakefield

Around Wakefield and the WF postcodes we see a mix of traditional brick terraces and 1960s and 1970s estates. The terraces share the rising and penetrating damp problems of other older brick homes. The later estates often suffer from cold bridging around concrete lintels, window reveals and floor edges, and where windows have been upgraded without any extra ventilation, condensation and black mould tend to follow in bedrooms and bathrooms.

Harrogate

In Harrogate and across HG1 to HG3, many homes are large stone Victorian and Georgian villas, often with basements and cellars. High ceilings, chimney breasts, lead flashing and long runs of guttering all need maintaining, and a small defect can let water into a wall for months before it shows inside. Below-ground rooms are vulnerable to damp coming through the masonry, which is where cellar tanking and careful diagnosis make the biggest difference.

What a Visit Involves

Wherever you are, the visit works the same way. A surveyor inspects the property inside and out, takes moisture readings and uses thermal imaging to find the source of the problem rather than guessing from the stains. We explain what we have found and give you a clear, no-obligation quote. If you go ahead, we treat the cause, carry out a final check once the work is done and give you practical advice to help stop damp or mould coming back.
